The Rolling Stones may be done touring, but there’s a catch
It’s been nearly two years since The Rolling Stones’ Hackney Diamonds Tour concluded, and they haven’t hit the road again since. There’s a chance, according to guitarist Keith Richards, that they may never tour again.
This shouldn’t come as a big surprise. After all, their rumored 2025 and 2026 tours were canceled, and there hasn’t been much movement since.
Speaking to Uncut Magazine for its latest cover story, Richards, 82, admitted “to some wear and tear” from playing music, especially live. He then conceded that he’s unsure if touring is a possibility in the future, though that doesn’t mean the Stones are done playing live yet.
“I don’t know if tours are possible,” he admitted. “It’s the traveling that takes it out of you. But I do see the possibility of us doing residency somewhere.
“Where it is, London, New York, Paris, anywhere. I’ll play Rome! But I don’t see why they shouldn’t be able to throw some shows together in a new format,” he continued.
Now, Richards still seems to enjoy playing live, conceding that it is “still exciting.” It’ll continue to be “exciting” until his body tells him enough is enough. But, for now, it’s still “necessary.”
“I love working with the guys. I mean, what am I gonna do? Jesus Christ. It’s necessary for me – at gunpoint, if needs be – to keep a band together. ‘You will play drums!’ I do my bit, but it’s an incredible gift from everybody else. I didn’t expect this in return,” he acknowledged. “It’s still a bit mind boggling, even at this age.”
Ronnie Wood’s stance on The Rolling Stones’ touring future

His bandmate, Ronnie Wood, 79, agreed with Richards’ sentiments. He explained, “We’re not getting any younger. None of us are getting out here alive. We all come from the same spirit. We all come from the Earth. We’re all connected, which is so lovely to think about.”
With The Rolling Stones’ 25th album, Foreign Tongues, coming out in July, it’s unknown if they will tour to support the album. Their last album, Hackney Diamonds, was supported with a 20-date North American tour in 2024.
