Cardinals QB Caron Beck’s perfect 9-word declaration after strong preseason debut

The Arizona Cardinals opened the 2026 preseason with a 33-30 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Thursday night’s Hall of Fame Game, but rookie quarterback Carson Beck delivered an encouraging debut that reinforced why the organization believes he can be part of its future.

Beck completed 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards while leading two touchdown drives during his first-half appearance. The former Georgia standout showcased poise throughout the evening, consistently making quick decisions and delivering accurate throws. Following the game, Beck reflected on his performance in comments shared by Cardinals team writer Darren Urban.

“That was fun, being able to play football again,” Beck said.

Beck connected twice on deep passes to wide receiver Jalen Brooks and capped another drive with a well-placed fade touchdown pass to Simi Fehoko, highlighting both his arm strength and touch during an efficient debut.

His performance mirrored what Arizona’s coaching staff has seen throughout training camp.

“It’s a broken record, but it’s the same thing I keep seeing in practice,” head coach Mike LaFleur said. “He doesn’t make it too big. He just makes it about the play.”

Panthers coach Dave Canales impressed by Carson Beck’s NFL debut

Beck’s composure also impressed the opposing sideline. Panthers head coach Dave Canales praised the rookie’s command of the offense despite making his first NFL preseason appearance.

“He operated like a professional,” Canales said. “He looked fantastic. He was accurate. He was on time. Our rush was decent. He got the ball out, threw some really beautiful passes down the field, up the sideline on some double moves, over the middle, to keep the drive alive in some third-down situations so tip my hat to him.”

While the Arizona Cardinals did not come away with a victory, Beck’s outing provided one of the biggest positives from the Hall of Fame Game. His accuracy, decision-making and ability to push the ball downfield offered an encouraging glimpse of his development as Arizona continues training camp and evaluates its quarterback depth ahead of the 2026 regular season.
