Meet Kaelen Culpepper, the future star Twins just promoted

The Minnesota Twins enter Friday three games back of the AL Central lead and half a game out of a Wild Card spot with their 57-59 record. Prior to their series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Twins have brought in some extra reinforcements.

Minnesota is calling up shortstop Kaelen Culpepper, via JD Cameron of Limestone Pipeline. The corresponding move has not yet been revealed.

Culpepper was originally selected at No. 21 in the 2024 MLB Draft. One year later, he was the No. 4 overall prospect in the organization, via MLB Pipeline. In 2026, Culpepper is now ranked as the second-best prospect on the Twins and No. 29 in all of baseball.

Over his 213 total games in the minor leagues, Culpepper has hit .277 with 37 home runs, 122 RBIs and 46 stolen bases. Through his 74 games at the Triple-A level in 2026, the shortstop has hit .271 with 14 home runs, 46 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. Hitting .333 with three doubles, two RBIs and a stolen bases over his last five games, Minnesota is convinced Culpepper is ready for the show.

While the infielder does have experience at second and third base, most of his time on the diamond has come at shortstop. For the Twins to call him up at this stage of the season, it seems likely they’ll give him an opportunity to stick at the position.

Minnesota took on a buyer’s mentality at the deadline, showing they’re actually trying to make a push for the playoffs. Currently ranking 10th in runs scored (539), they’ll look for Culpepper to add another spark and officially begin his major league career.
