Phillies’ Trea Turner gets real on adjustment after Luis Arraez trade

Last week, the Philadelphia Phillies acquired Luis Arraez in a trade with the San Francisco Giants, nabbing a contact hitter that will mesh into their lineup. Trea Turner, the starting shortstop, spoke about the deal and any adjustments he made in the days since it happened, according to Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic.

“Is there going to be maybe a little bit of a learning curve? Sure,’ Trea Turner said Thursday, ‘but I just feel like the routine plays will be good,” Turner told Varnes.

 The trade for Arraez solidifies their infield and gives them one of the best contact hitters in the game. Notably, he has been the cleanup hitter since they acquired him. With Kyle Schwarber leading off, Turner has remained in his two slot, with Bryce Harper right behind him.

Turner has struggled at shortstop recently, prompting some to believe there may be some changes. So far, he has remained in his spot, with Arraez at second base and Alec Bohm at first. Turner clarified his statements about playing with Arraez.

“Maybe it’s not as big (an adjustment) as everyone seems (to think), but I think there’ll still be some hiccups along the way. I think we’re ready for that. Like, we know that. But so far so good,” Turner added.

The Phillies have gone 3-1 since acquiring Arraez at the trade deadline. Following their series with the Nationals, the Phillies will remain home for a three-game weekend showdown with the Toronto Blue Jays. As Turner adjusts to Arraez, the Phillies will attempt to continue their string of success.
