Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes called out for control claim in restaurant lawsuit

It has not been a smooth transition for Kansas City Chiefs teammates Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, whose 1587 Prime steakhouse restaurant was named in a lawsuit over its name.

However, the duo is now being called out by 1587 Sneakers for allegedly downplaying their role in the restaurant. In new court documents obtained by TMZ, 1587 Sneakers allege that Kelce and Mahomes claimed evidence that proves they don’t hold “direct interest” in the steakhouse. In turn, they are unable to “exert control over” their restaurant.  They were trying to have the lawsuit dismissed, saying they don’t have control or any ties to New York City, where it was filed.

1587 Sneakers claims that the Chiefs quarterback-tight end duo are trying to downplay their part in the restaurant as “two distant celebrities that are mere promotional ‘pretty faces’ of the alleged infringing enterprise with no New York ties.”

The restaurant’s website would beg to differ. It states the restaurant is a “collaboration between” the teammates “in partnership with Noble 33.”

Why are Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes named in lawsuit over restaurant?

The company suing Kelce and Mahomes, 1587 Sneakers, wants the Chiefs stars to drop their restaurant’s name. Additionally, they were asked to stop selling merchandise with the steakhouse’s name on it.

In fairness, 1587 Sneakers has been around longer. It has been in operation since April 2023. However, the company didn’t apply for the “1587” trademark until October 2025.

Meanwhile, Kelce and Mahomes filed their trademark application in December 2023 in the bar and restaurant category. The lawsuit may be tricky since the businesses are in two different industries.

Of course, “1587” combines Mahomes and Kelce’s jersey numbers. That explains why they would want it as their restaurant’s name. The case is still ongoing, so fans will have to sit tight for a verdict.

This distraction is the last thing the Chiefs need on their mind. Mahomes is coming off a torn ACL injury suffered in December, while Kelce is back for at least one more season. After going 6-11 and missing the playoffs, the Chiefs are hoping to come back with a vengeance.
