Reds’ Chase Burns getting hit ‘in the meat’ had Terry Francona wincing hard
The Cincinnati Reds have had a good week against the Philadelphia Phillies, but Chase Burns sustained an injury in the upper groin region during his outing. After the game, manager Terry Francona told JomBoy Media that he winced when he saw it happen live.
"It hit him in the meat… I don't even watch a game on TV without wearing a cup."

Francona related that he could not believe his starting pitcher was not wearing a cup. According to Baseball Mode, many baseball players do not wear a cup. Many attribute it to comfort and potential injury. Notably, catchers and pitchers generally wear cups the most. It did not affect the outcome of the game for Cincinnati.
The Reds have won two in a row after enduring an awful stretch. They started the month with eight consecutive losses. Since then, they have gone 4-2. The Reds are currently in fourth place in the NL Central, as they attempt to climb back into the playoff race. It has been a struggle for the Reds, who just have not been able to gain significant momentum.
Burns appeared to be okay despite taking a hard hit line drive. He is having a great season, going 6-1 with a 1.83 ERA over 10 games. Additionally, he has strung together five consecutive quality starts for the Reds, potentially giving this team an ace they needed for so long. Despite the minor injury, Burns still finished with six innings while allowing one earned run on three hits, striking out nine.
The Reds get the day off before beginning a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals at home this weekend.
