Brewers superstar Jacob Misiorowski reveals the moment he knew he was a flame-thrower

Milwaukee Brewers star Jacob Misiorowski has become synonymous with triple-digit velocity, but the right-hander still remembers when he first realized his fastball was different.

Misiorowski recently reflected on his progression from throwing in the 90s during high school to reaching 100 mph at Crowder College. The story traces the origins of the power arsenal that helped make the 6-foot-7 pitcher a second-round selection in the 2022 MLB Draft.

Chris Rose Sports shared the Dugout Discussions segment Wednesday on X, formerly Twitter, capturing Misiorowski’s recollection of when he first reached triple-digit velocity.

“Jacob Misiorowski remembers throwing 100 for the first time when he was in junior college”

“In high school I was already 90–95 and thought, ‘I’ve got something here.’ It just kept climbing, and by junior college I finally hit 100.”

That early velocity became the 24-year-old superstar’s trademark. The Brewers selected him No. 63 overall out of Crowder, where he developed into one of the most overpowering junior college pitchers. His path carried added significance after the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out his senior season at Grain Valley High School.

Misiorowski’s fastball has continued gaining speed in the majors. On June 26, he fired a 105.5 mph fastball to Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong at American Family Field. The pitch matched the third-fastest recorded during the Statcast era and set the record for a starting pitcher.

Only Aroldis Chapman has thrown faster during that period. Misiorowski’s pitch also matched the 105.5 mph fastball Los Angeles Angels reliever Ben Joyce threw in 2024.

His velocity has accompanied outstanding results during his second MLB season. The right-handed flamethrower lowered his ERA to 1.75 after limiting the Los Angeles Dodgers to one run across six innings Saturday. He allowed five hits and struck out six in Milwaukee’s 4-1 victory at Dodger Stadium.

The moment Misiorowski first saw 100 mph offered more than an early milestone. It signaled the emergence of a fastball that has since become one of baseball’s most formidable weapons.
