Chargers’ Justin Herbert is ‘ready to rock,’ Jim Harbaugh says

The Los Angeles Chargers aim to build upon a successful 2025-26 campaign going into Jim Harbaugh’s third year as head coach. While there are some injury concerns with the offensive line, Harbaugh can’t help but be excited about Justin Herbert.

During a guest appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Harbaugh proclaimed that his 28-year-old quarterback is prepared to begin the 2026-27 season. The seasoned head coach explains what he’s seen from Herbert and how well he has come along over the years.

“He just keeps getting better,” Harbaugh said about Herbert. “He’s in a great place in all ways… He’s locked, cocked, and ready to rock. He’s in a great place.”

The Chargers will seemingly always have a chance with Justin Herbert under center. He’s been a solid quarterback throughout his first six seasons in the NFL, earning the 2020 Rookie of the Year Award and two Pro Bowl nods in that span. With Jim Harbaugh on his side, L.A. has been ultra-competitive the past two seasons.

Herbert was great once again in the 2025-26 campaign, leading the Chargers to 11 wins after accumulating 3,727 passing yards and 26 touchdowns while completing 66.4% of his pass attempts. Los Angeles should expect another big year from its star quarterback.

The key issues for the team, however, are the injury woes on the offensive line. The Chargers recently lost newly signed center Tyler Biadasz after he suffered a knee injury during practice. His timeline to return is currently unknown, as he was ruled out indefinitely.

L.A. will open the new campaign in a Week 1 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. It will be a home opener for Justin Herbert and his teammates.
