Igor Tudor faces Tottenham player revolt as replacements, including club legend, eyed for job

Igor Tudor has already alienated many of the Tottenham Hotspur players, talkSPORT understands.

Tudor is set to remain in charge in the short term but it appears unlikely he will last beyond this month’s international break.

His treatment of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky during Tuesday’s hammering at Atletico Madrid did not go down well within the dressing room.

The Spurs hierarchy are understood to have sounded out potential replacements for the Croat, who has had only four games in charge, losing all four.

Who could take over from Tudor?

Possible options include former interim boss and coach Ryan Mason and Spurs legend Robbie Keane, currently in charge of Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

Mason, who has overseen 13 Spurs matches across two previous caretaker stints, is available after he was sacked by West Bromwich Albion in January.

Prior to his appointment by the Baggies last July, Mason had been a part of Tottenham’s first team coaching set-up since 2019.

Another name heavily linked with a return to north London is Mauricio Pochettino.

However, he is committed to the United States men’s national team for the upcoming World Cup, meaning he would only be a viable option at the end of the season.

Crucially, talkSPORT understands Pochettino remains open to the possibility of a second spell in charge of Tottenham.

The Argentine is also in no doubt about how some fans would feel about a return to Tottenham after a handful of supporters serenaded him on a plane.

How Tudor’s reign has unravelled

Tudor was appointed in February following Thomas Frank’s sacking, with the Dane lasting just eight months into a three-year deal.

Despite arriving with a reputation of being a firefighter, Tudor has only poured fuel on the flames.

Under the Croatian, Tottenham have slid perilously closer to the relegation zone.

Ahead of their visit to Liverpool on Sunday, Tottenham lie 16th in the Premier League with 29 points, only one more than 18th-placed West Ham United.

Adding further to Tottenham’s woes is the fact they have not won a league fixture since December 28.

But the drought is one that must be snapped sooner than later given there are just nine league fixtures remaining this term.

Unfortunately for Tottenham, securing safety will be no easy task given they are without star defender Micky Van de Ven for Sunday’s trip to Anfield.

The Netherlands international is suspended having picked up a red card during Tottenham’s last league outing, which was a 3-1 loss at home to Palace.

Van de Ven is under no illusions about the difficulty of what lies ahead and gave an insight into the glum mood that has engulfed the club following Tottenham’s loss to Atleti on Tuesday.

Speaking to Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport, Van de Ven said: “Right now we’re just taking blow after blow after blow.

“It’s just really tough, and now we also have an important match this weekend that I won’t be able to play in because I’m suspended.

“It’s a really terrible period, I can tell you that. It’s really, really awful.”
