Stephanie White ‘felt great’ that WNBA rescinded Caitlin Clark’s technical foul

Amid all the drama during the Indiana Fever’s win against the Chicago Sky on Saturday, Fever All-Star guard Caitlin Clark picked up a technical foul, her eighth of the season, which would have prompted an automatic one-game suspension for the team’s next game. However, the WNBA quickly rescinded the technical foul, thus preserving Clark’s status for the team’s game against the New York Liberty on Thursday, prompting a jubilant response from Fever head coach Stephanie White, as per WISH-TV News.

“It felt great. Certainly I think it was the right decision,” White said on Tuesday. “I was glad that it came to a decision quickly. I’d like for them to give me my money back too, but …”

Stephanie White was speaking about her own technical foul she received after standing up for Clark during the Fever’s win against the Sky. That one was not rescinded by the league.

The Caitlin Clark technical, however, occurred when Clark accidentally made contact with one of the officials while stumbling out of bounds. It was very clearly upon replay, unintentional, but Clark was whistle for a tech on the spot. The WNBA’s decision to rescind the technical foul puts her back at seven on the season. She still can’t pick up another or else risk a suspension.

The Fever are currently in a tight race for playoff positioning. They are 20-12 and in fourth place in the league standings, but just a half game ahead of the Washington Mystics, Atlanta Dream and Liberty.

Clark has been in the MVP conversation this season while averaging a career-high 21.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 44.2 percent from the field, 35.5 percent from 3-point range and 85.3 percent from the free-throw line.
