Brett Baty pulls off extremely rare Mets franchise feat in first inning vs. Braves

The New York Mets are going to need something short of a miracle to make the MLB postseason. Nevertheless, hope is still alive, and Brett Baty gave the team and its fans a reason to feel good early in Monday night’s series opener against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park.

The Mets’ offense came right out of the gate on fire, with Baty providing the biggest spark in the first inning, hitting a grand slam off Atlanta starter Bryce Elder to stretch New York’s lead to 5-0.

With that home run, Baty also achieved what only two others in Mets history had accomplished before him.

“Brett Baty hit his first career grand slam It was the first allowed by Bryce Elder in his career. Baty is also the third Mets player ever to hit a first-inning grand slam against the Braves,” ESPN Insights shared via a social media post on X.

Mets fans, of course, are hyped after seeing that monster home run from Baty, who is in his fifth season in the big leagues.

“The Mets cant give up on him, and should never have given Bichette 3rd,” a fan said.

“I guess we gotta let Baty cook,” a social media user on X shared.

“someone needs to do a study on the 2026 post deadline mets,” another one commented.

“Way to represent, Brett,” a different fan said.

“A 5-0 first inning lead in Atlanta?? Am I dreaming?” another comment read.

Baty and the Mets are going to need more highlights like that to better their chances of joining the postseason party. They entered the Braves series last in the NL East standings with a 52-67 record and 11 games off the final wild-card spot in the NL.
