Pistons rumors: Insider relays $160 million Jalen Duren prediction even after ‘nasty’ contract feud

The Detroit Pistons and Jalen Duren are still at a standstill as the two sides haven’t been able to come to an agreement on an extension, and ESPN’s Tim MacMahon recently said they’ve been in “awfully nasty” negotiations. With roughly a month or so before training camp begins, there seems to be optimism that something will get done, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.

“This time last year, I remember hearing how acrimonious it was between Josh Giddey and Chicago, and how Dyson Daniels and the Hawks were so far apart,” Fischer said. “Kuminga even gets a decent payday from Golden State. We still have about a month left for restricted free agents to come to terms with their incumbent teams. I talked with someone today who still believes he’s on track for a four-year, $160 million deal. He’s clearly gonna want something closer to what Walker Kessler got than what Mitchell Robinson got. But when all things are said and done.”

Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints recently reported that the Pistons were sticking to the number that they originally offered Duren. At this point, it may come down to him simply accepting that or playing on his qualifying offer.

“Maybe a deal can get done in the middle, around $38 million to $40 million annually, but Detroit has been sticking to what they believe is fair value for Duren’s services,” Siegel wrote.

Duren was huge for the Pistons in the regular season last year, helping them get the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. He averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, and if you look at those stats, that seems like a player who deserves all the money he wants.

Unfortunately, his play took a huge dip in the playoffs, which is why the Pistons have been hesitant to give him a large extension.
