Michael Jordan 1-and-done with NBA on NBC coverage

After just one season with the NBA on NBC as a “special on-air contributor,” basketball icon Michael Jordan appears to be done at the network.

Front Office Sports reports that MJ is not expected to return for the 2026-27 season on NBC. During his lone season with the network, his only contribution was a sit-down interview with Mike Tirico, which was spliced and released throughout the season.

As Front Office Sports notes, the interview was “fascinating,” but it didn’t really focus on current events in the league. Ultimately, the likely hefty price tag that comes along with hiring Jordan is likely not worth bringing him back for another year.

NBC declined to comment on Front Office Sports’ report. It remains to be seen whether or not the network will officially announce its intentions with Jordan for the upcoming season.

NBA on NBC was revived during the 2025-26 season. The new deal between the league and NBCUniversal meant NBC and Peacock would cover games. NBCSN also broadcast certain games.

Earlier in the year, NBC Sports president Rick Cordella reflected fondly on Jordan’s first year with the network. He claimed to be hoping for “more in the future,” even saying they’ve had “plenty of ongoing discussions.” However, he did note that “we’ll see what happens.”

It appears Jordan is out for the upcoming season. The collaboration was initially intriguing, considering how little MJ has spoken about basketball since The Last Dance aired on Netflix in 2020.

He is best known for his time with the Chicago Bulls. MJ and the Bulls won six championships during his career; he was named MVP of all six NBA Finals series. Additionally, he was a five-time NBA MVP and a 14-time All-Star. His accolades speak for themselves, and Jordan is still regarded as one of the greatest of all time.
