Chet Holmgren’s workout video with Kevin Durant filled with fans making Victor Wembanyama quips
If there is one player who is out to seek redemption, it is Oklahoma City Thunder forward Chet Holmgren.
Holmgren was heavily ridiculed by fans after his terrible performance in the Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. He was badly outplayed by his supposed rival, Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, with Holmgren looking like he forgot to play basketball.
The 24-year-old Holmgren has been busy with his individual training in the offseason. In a new video, he was shown working out with Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant. The one-time champion looked good as he honed his new moves, scoring on Durant multiple times.
Fans, however, still roasted Holmgren with quips about Wembanyama.
“None of this matters if he’s not doing this against Wemby,” said @hype_b.
“Until he sees Wemby, none of this matters,” echoed @justj3ffo.
“Till Wemby walks in, then he’s a deer in headlights,” added @milk_s4vage.
“Wemby is locking that s*** up,” posted @agentglenn.
“All this skill just to get dog-crapped by Wemby,” commented @zorr_ow10.
“Offense is nice, but you still afraid to guard Wemby?” asked @jon_the_disney_photographer.
While he disappeared against the Spurs, Holmgren had a strong campaign overall. He earned his first nod to the All-Star Game and the All-NBA Third Team. He also finished as runner-up to Wembanyama for Defensive Player of the Year.
Holmgren averaged career-highs of 17.1 points, 55.7% shooting, and 8.9 rebounds on top of 1.9 blocks in 69 games. He helped the Thunder to a league-best record of 64-18.
Working out with Durant will only make Holmgren even more lethal. But he also has to improve on the mental aspect, which will allow him to play better and with more intention.
