Ronda Rousey is back training months after her MMA retirement

Just months after dominating and easily defeating Gina Carano at Jake Paul’s MVP MMA 1, Ronda Rousey announced her retirement from the sport. A celebrated Olympic, UFC, and WWE legend, Rousey parted ways with UFC in 2016 before beginning her WWE career.

However, a few years later, in 2023, Rousey also parted ways with WWE. She later enjoyed a brief indie wrestling stint before appearing on AEW TV and then fighting Carano on Netflix. Now, months after hanging up her boots, Rousey was spotted back in training.

The Professional Fighters League recently posted a picture of Jean Bishop training with Ronda Rousey in preparation for his upcoming rematch against Liz Carmouche for the inaugural PFL women’s flyweight championship.

On Oct. 16, 2026, Bishop and Carmouche will headline PFL Chicago at Wintrust Arena. The fight will crown the promotion’s first-ever women’s flyweight champion and also become the promotion’s first new title since the PFL’s merger with MVP [Most Valuable Promotions].

The upcoming fight is a rematch of last year’s PFL women’s flyweight tournament final, where Carmouche stopped Bishop in the third round of that bout. However, following the loss, Bishop has rebounded with victories over Borena Tsertsvadze and Ariane Lipski da Silva. Carmouche is set to enter the fight following a submission win over Viviane Araujo in Jun. 2026.

UFC Hall of Famer Rousey also shares a history with Carmouche. She defeated her at UFC 157 in 2013, in the first defense of her UFC women’s bantamweight title and her UFC debut. Despite her retired status, Rousey is now back training Bishop to avenge last year’s loss.
