Aryna Sabalenka’s ‘horrible’ see-through outfit blasted by fans after shock US Open defeat

Aryna Sabalenka’s US Open got off to a rotten start with a shock doubles defeat amid a wave of criticism over her outfit.

The world No. 1 was paired with Novak Djokovic is a formidable partnership, but lost to doubles specialists Katerina Siniakova and Henry Patten.

It sent the No. 1 seeds crashing out in the first round at Flushing Meadows and Sabalenka’s day won’t have got any better when she opened social media.

Her Nike uniform featured an orange two-piece topped with a black mesh, which some viewers compared to a sack of potatoes.

“Omg Aryna’s kit looks even worse than I could have possibly imagined on court,” wrote one fan on X.

“I’m a big fan of hers but I’m not crazy about this look,” replied another.

A third asked: “It’s horrible! Cant’ she refuse to wear it?”

“The tacky jewelry is even worse,” chimed a fourth.

Sabalenka and Djokovic took the first set 4-1 in 15 minutes and fans at Arthur Ashe looked like they were set to see a masterclass.

They were right, in a way.

Siniakovia is an 11-time Grand Slam champion in the women’s doubles, and her partner has three of his own.

They took the second set 4-2 and dominated the tie break for a 10-2 win.

“It wasn’t looking very good for a while,” Patten said. “In this format, we played one bad game, and all of a sudden the set was gone. So, we knew the same was possible in the second set.

“We played an amazing tie-break, I mean Kat acing Novak on match point was pretty fun!”

Aryna Sabalenka’s Grand Slam drought

This is the second year of the new mixed-doubles format being held prior to the start of the US Open.

The singles begin on August 30 with Sabalenka and Djokovic aiming for their first Grand Slam title of 2026.

Sabalenka lost to Naomi Osaka in the round of 16 at Wimbledon, suffered a surprise loss to Diana Shnaider in the French Open quarter-finals and saw world No. 2 Elena Rybakina beat her in the Australian Open final.

She will find out her opponent Thursday and it remains to be seen if she will ring Nike for a fit check.
