Police launch search for ex-Premier League star after he was reported missing

Hungarian police have launched a search to find Akos Buzsaky after he was reported missing.

Local authorities have been searching for Buzsaky since August 18.

Buzsaky’s father, Akos Buzsaky Sr, was not even aware his son had been missing when contacted by Hungarian publication Blikk.

What has Akos Buzsaky’s father said about the search?

“I didn’t know that the police were also looking for my son,” Buzsaky Sr said.

“He basically spends a lot of time in Greece, where he works as a construction contractor.

“He spent almost the entire last year there.

“Since we don’t live under the same roof, it’s not surprising that we only speak less often.

“The last time I spoke to him was last week, when he was at home.”

Akos Buzsaky’s career at a glance

Buzsaky is remembered by English football supporters for his stints with Queens Park Rangers and Plymouth Argyle.

The 44-year-old began his career at MTK in Hungary before moving to Porto in 2002.

A loan spell at Portuguese side Academica followed, with Buzsaky then joining Plymouth on loan in 2004 after impressing in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

The Pilgrims turned Buzsaky’s loan into a permanent deal after just one season.

He went to on make over 100 appearances for Plymouth before joining QPR on loan in October 2007.

The Hungarian then became a permanent member of QPR months later in January.

Buzsaky wasted little time in becoming a cult hero among the Hoops faithful, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in his first season.

He later helped the club achieve promotion to the Premier League in 2011, going on to represent the Hoops 18 times in the top flight.

It proved to be Buzsaky’s only Premier League campaign as he departed QPR at the end of this contract in July 2012.

Following his exit from the Hoops, Buzsaky moved to Portsmouth before returning to Hungary in September 2013 to join Ferencvaros.
