Taylor Swift pens emotional tribute to Dolly Parton after tragic death

The news of Dolly Parton’s death shocked the world on Aug. 25, 2026, and singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who started her career in the country music genre, paid tribute to the late icon after she passed away.

She issued a statement to People in the wake of Parton’s passing. Swift said that “a world without Dolly doesn’t feel possible, real, or right.” She then discussed the legacy Parton leaves behind.

“But because of the eternally generous way she spent her time on this earth and the countless lives she changed for the better, her legacy will be an everlasting one,” she wrote. “Dolly gave us someone to look up to while encouraging us to be who we are as individuals.”

Somehow she was true grace and true grit, all in one dazzling person. Parton’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, announced her passing on Tuesday, Aug. 25. According to People, her reps confirmed that she died after a “brief battle with cancer.”

“My name is Brin Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis, and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next,” her nephew said. “This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality.

“As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now,” he continued.
