WWE’s The Rock, Roman Reigns will share the ring soon, just not how you think

Reports have recently surfaced suggesting The Rock vs. Roman Reigns isn’t happening at WWE WrestleMania 43 in 2027, but they may share the ring sooner than that.

On Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, WWE announced a new tryout in Honolulu, Hawaii, that will be held on Oct. 16 and 17. The poster features current Superstars and Bloodline members Reigns and The Usos (Jey and Jimmy). It also features The Rock in the middle of them.

Of course, The Rock, whose real name is Dwayne Johnson, is on the board of directors of TKO Group Holdings — UFC and WWE’s parent company. Perhaps he wants to be hands-on with the tryouts as part of the board. Additionally, like the other Bloodline members that will be there, he is part of the legendary Anoa’i family.

Is there a chance Reigns and The Rock cross paths and set up a WrestleMania 43 dream match? It’s possible, but it remains to be seen if the “Final Boss” or Dwayne Johnson is showing up to the tryout.

Will WWE dream match The Rock vs. Roman Reigns finally happen?

For years, WWE has been teasing a dream match between The Rock and Reigns. It is perhaps the final dream match both men have yet to work.

However, the stars have never aligned. It appeared The Rock was going to challenge Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40 in 2024. He was set to leapfrog Cody Rhodes, who won the Royal Rumble, to face the “Tribal Chief.”

This caused a revolt among fans. Instead, The Rock turned heel and joined the Bloodline, creating the “Final Boss” persona. The “Final Boss” and the “Tribal Chief” joined forces to take on Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania 40.

The following night, The Rock reemerged to try to help Reigns retain his championship against the “American Nightmare.” His efforts were for naught, as the “Tribal Chief’s” 1,316-day reign was ended by Rhodes.
