‘Not OK’ – Ally McCoist questions decision to boo new Premier League manager after two games

Ally McCoist has defended football fans’ right to boo their team after Nottingham Forest were jeered during their loss to Leeds United.

However, the talkSPORT co-host has questioned whether such a reaction from supporters helps the situation.

His remarks follow Forest’s 2-0 Carabao Cup second round defeat to Leeds at the City Ground on Tuesday night.

The reverse marked a second loss in three days to the same opponents in front of their own fans.

It leaves new Forest boss Oliver Glasner with two defeats from his first two matches in charge.

The former Crystal Palace manager was appointed on a three-year deal in July.

McCoist reacted to the jeers during Wednesday’s talkSPORT Breakfast show.

Asked by Alan Brazil if he is ok with the fans booing Glasner already, he replied: “The answer to that would be no. No, I’m not ok with him getting booed.

“Fans are entitled to voice their opinion. They pay their money, but the first thing you’ve got to say is, booing does not help anybody.

“It doesn’t help the players, it doesn’t help the management, doesn’t help the feeling within the stadium, the atmosphere, but I’ll stand by their right to do it.

“They’re well within their rights to do it if they pay their money, but after two games, new manager, no (it is not ok).

“I think it was only a very, very small element. It only happened once or twice.

“So in answer to the question, I’ll fight for the right to do it, but I don’t think it does anybody any good.”

Forest’s cup exit follows a 1-0 defeat to Leeds in the Premier League on Saturday.

They travel to Anfield to face Liverpool this weekend before hosting Tottenham Hotspur on September 5.

Matches against Aston Villa and Coventry City follow ahead of the first international break of the season.

Glasner became the club’s fifth permanent manager in 10 months when he was named as Vitor Pereira’s successor earlier this summer.

His arrival came after the Austrian left Palace following almost two-and-a-half years in charge at Selhurst Park.

During that time, he won the FA Cup, Community Shield and Conference League.

Those trophies represent the only major honours in the club’s 120-year history.

As for his new club, Forest’s last piece of significant silverware came in 1990 when they lifted the League Cup for a fourth time.

Last season saw the club finish 16th in the Premier League as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League.
