Brooks Koepka signs new golf contract months after $85million LIV Golf exit

Brooks Koepka has reportedly agreed to join the TGL’s Motor City Golf Club – the league’s first-ever expansion franchise.

The US golf star – who rejoined the PGA Tour in January via its Returning Member Program – will become the Detroit team’s first confirmed player when it debuts in the 2027 TGL season.

After Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy made indoor golf a hit with the simulator league, a third season is set to launch next year.

And the 2027 promises to be the biggest yet, following the news that Motor City Golf Club would become the league’s first expansion franchise.

There’s no shortage of big names involved in the project either, with the new franchise co-owned by the principal owner of the NFL’s Detroit Lions, Sheila Hamp, and her husband Steve.

New recruit

Motor City have now taken another huge step forward, by confirming Koepka as their first player for the upcoming season.

The news was first reported by ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter on social media on Wednesday.

Schefter wrote on X: “Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka is joining TGL’s Motor City Golf Club as the team’s first player selected through the league’s expansion process.”

Koepka and the Motor City Golf Club join TGL as the seventh team on the league. 

The indoor golf league for PGA Tour players was founded by golf megastars Woods and McIlroy and is run by their company, TMRW Sports.

Since its debut in January 2025, the TGL has completed its first two seasons at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Created in partnership with the PGA, the league boasts no shortage of household names.

As well as co-founders Woods and McIlroy, major winners Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas have all competed in the first two seasons, and look set to return in 2027.

Comeback trail?

Koepka’s arrival in TGL comes at an interesting point in his career.

The 36-year-old returned to the PGA Tour earlier this season after four years on LIV Golf – which has since had its funding withdrawn by Saudi Arabia‘s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Koepka left the then Saudi-backed league at the end of 2025, with his PGA Tour return coming at a huge financial cost.

To be reinstated, he didn’t just give up his LIV Golf contract; he accepted massive restitution to level the playing field with those who never left.

The five-time major winner is ineligible to receive equity shares in the Tour’s Player Equity Program for five years, which is an estimated loss between $50million and $85m.

During his time with LIV, he won five individual events and captained Smash Golf Club – pocketing a staggering $44m in prize money to add to his impressive PGA Championship career earnings.

Koepka played 16 PGA Tour events during the 2026 season but failed to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

His best finish came at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, where he tied for ninth, while he recorded six top-20 finishes.

As for his major performances this year, the Florida native’s best display came at the Masters – where he finished T12.

Koepka followed this up with a disappointing T55 at the US PGA Championship – won by Aaron Rai – before failing to make the cut at the US Open and finishing T28 at The Open Championship.
