PGA Tour confirm key 2027 event will head back to New York despite recent fan trouble 

The PGA Tour is heading back to New York for one of its marquee events next season despite recent issues in the State.

Tour bosses have today confirmed the full schedule for the 2027 season and some key changes have been made.

One such tweak is to the BMW Championship, the second FedExCup Playoff event.

Wyndham Clark won the tournament at Bellerive Country Club in Missouri recently but the tournament changes venue each year.

And for 2027, it will take place at Liberty National Golf Club, just outside Manhattan.

The news comes despite New York having seen fan trouble at two recent events.

The 2025 Ryder Cup was marred by abuse from the crowds as Europe beat the USA at Bethpage Black.

Then Clark’s US Open win at Shinnecock Hills saw poor crowd numbers and the champion himself getting a hostile reception from the galleries.

Liberty National, which boasts incredible views of the World Trade Center and lower Manhattan, hosted the 2017 Presidents Cup and will now play a key role at the end of the PGA Tour season next summer.

The American Express at La Quinta will open up the new campaign with the Hawaii events now off the schedule.

That means the season will get going later than usual with the first three weeks of the year not having a PGA Tour event.

Torrey Pines will now host The Sentry and will feature the only scheduled Saturday finish of the season so as not to conflict with the NFL Conference Championships.

The Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral has remained as one of the eight Signature Events but will be held earlier in the season.

That has made a hectic run in March with the Cadillac being played the week before The Players – the PGA Tour’s Flagship tournament – and another Signature Event following the next week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The four majors next summer will include the Masters at Augusta in early April, the PGA Championship at PGA Frisco in mid-May, the US Open at Pebble Beach in June and The Open at St Andrews in July.

A new PGA Tour event has been added with the Sompo Championship at Silverado Resort in late July.

And the regular season will finish with the renamed GO by Raymond James event at Sedgefield Country Club before the trio of playoff events take place for the final time before its 2028 revamp.

The 2027 season will feature 36 tournaments in total before an expected restructure for the 2028 schedule.

The schedule release comes just days after the PGA Tour confirmed its plan to change the TOUR Championship completely as of 2028.

The season finale takes place at East Lake this week but in a couple of years, it will become a two-week match-play event.

“From the beginning, the goal of the Future Competition Committee was to create an easier-to-follow competitive model for our fans with greater consequence and a stronger season-long narrative,” said PGA TOUR CEO Brian Rolapp.

“Throughout this process, we listened carefully to our fans, players and partners. One message came through clearly: the culmination of our season should be worthy of the journey it takes to get there. 

“The result is a season-ending structure that rewards excellence over the course of the year while building toward a reimagined TOUR Championship. 

“We are creating something different, something distinct within professional golf that can resonate far beyond it.”
