Wolves attacker Fer Lopez has been backed to become one of the stars of the season after reigniting his career at the club.

The Spaniard has scored three goals in four appearances this season, which included a double in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Preston North End.

The 22-year-old struggled to settle after arriving at Molineux last summer in a £19million deal from Celta Vigo.

He managed just two Premier League starts and only made seven other appearances from the bench at the start of last season.

Lopez – who failed to be on the winning side for any of his top-flight games with eight defeats and a draw – was loaned back to his former side for the second half of the 2025/26 campaign.

After scoring once in 17 LaLiga outings, the attacking midfielder returned to Wolves upon their relegation to the Championship.

Now, following his impressive start to the season, Hugh Woozencroft has asked whether Lopez can be one of the stars of the season.

Fer Lopez revival at Wolves

Speaking to former Cardiff City captain Sean Morrison on talkSPORT’s EFL All Access podcast, he said: “Fer Lopez for Wolverhampton Wanderers, assist in game one, lovely solo goal in his brace this weekend as well.

“We’re reflecting on other teams and kind of just that little impetus, that quality; he may have come a little bit from nowhere.

“He’s obviously a £19m player playing in the second tier. Do you think he could go on to be one of the stars of this season?”

Morrison, a former League One Play-Offs Final winner with Huddersfield Town, replied: “Of course, yeah.

Abundance of quality in Fer Lopez

“As a player, if you carry a price tag of that amount of money, there is an abundance of quality in there,” Morrison continued.

“Somebody’s seen something where they want to pay that amount of money for you.

“So we know the quality is there, and last season it didn’t work out.

“Wolves were in a difficult position last year with a lot going on all around the club, whether that be on the pitch or off the pitch.

“So it would have been a turbulent place for him to come back to. Probably didn’t settle as well as he would have wanted to.

“The club’s a little bit more settled now. They’ve come down a division. Can he be the main man?

“Can the manager put his arm around him and give him the love that he probably wants and needs from his team and go on and have an absolutely brilliant season?

“Wolves, for me, their squad is absolutely stacked with quality all over, especially at the top end of the pitch.

“I think they’re going to be absolutely a fantastic team to watch this year. I think they’re going to be goals by the dozen.

“So I think if you get him and the rest of those boys playing to the top end of their ability, they’re going to be a real one to watch.”

Woozencroft added: “Wolves will be feeling confident, and Nathan Shi, their chairman, has been speaking about the need to bring in more players.

“So it looks like they could add some more quality before the end of the window.

“They’ll be looking around feeling very confident at the start of this campaign.”
