Will Juan Soto, Devin Williams still return from injury for the Mets this season?

It has been a horrible season for the New York Mets. The team is in last place in the NL East and has been dealing with a rash of injuries. Juan Soto has been on the IL since the end of July, while Jorge Polanco, Mark Vientos, and Devin Williams have also been out.

Now, there are some updates on the status of both Soto and Williams, per MLB.com.

“Restarted a running program in mid-August but has been on a deliberate progression. Has vowed to return before the season ends and should have more than enough time to do so,” the update said about Soto.

Soto has been out with a calf injury and has not played since July 24 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has played just 84 games this year, hitting .283. He has 21 home runs and 52 RBIs this year as well. He is expected to return at some point in September.

“Began feeling arm fatigue early in August but did not receive an MRI until after an Aug. 7 outing. That test revealed a strain. Expects to return at some point in September but was not close as of a late August update,” the update on Williams said.

Williams has been out since August 7. He has pitched in 42 games this year, going 3-2 with a 4.66 ERA. He also has 16 saves and just three blown saves.  He is also expected to return in September.

The Mets are 60-72 on the year, which places them last in the NL East and 17 games behind the Atlanta Braves. They are also 10.5 games out of a wild card spot. The Mets continue their series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.
