Tennessee legend Peyton Manning writes heartfelt tribute to Dolly Parton after tragic death
In the wake of Dolly Parton’s tragic death, fellow Tennessee legend Peyton Manning paid tribute to the late country music icon in an emotional post.
Manning took to Instagram to share a picture of them together at a Tennessee Volunteers game that she performed at. The NFL legend and former Volunteers quarterback escorted her to the stage.
“There was only one Dolly and I feel lucky to have known her,” he wrote. “We’ll miss you, Dolly. Tennessee won’t be the same without her!”
Parton was born and raised in Tennessee while Manning, who was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, made a name for himself as the Volunteers’ quarterback. He played for Tennessee from 1994 to 1997 before being drafted first overall in the 1998 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. He’d go on to have a legendary career with the Colts and the Denver Broncos, smashing passing records and winning two Super Bowls.
Dolly Parton’s tragic passing
On Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, Parton’s passing was announced on her social media pages. Brin Seaver, her nephew, shared the news in a video posted on her social media accounts.
“My name is Brin Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis, and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next,” Seaver said. “This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality.
“As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now,” Parton’s nephew added.
People then reported that Parton passed away after a “brief battle with cancer,” though the kind of cancer wasn’t disclosed by her team.
