Tyson Fury has ‘replacement opponent for Anthony Joshua lined up’ as Brit kicks off camp in US

Tyson Fury is intent on fighting at the back end of the year regardless of whether it is against Anthony Joshua or not.

The long-awaited all-British showdown is being targeted for November, but a disagreement over the location has stalled negotiations.

Saudi powerbroker Turki Alalshikh and streaming service Netflix are pushing for the fight to take place at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Meanwhile, Joshua has it written into his contract that the bout must be contested on UK soil.

AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn recently sent Alalshikh an addendum laying out all the revisions that have to be made to Joshua’s side of the deal to allow the fight to head across the pond.

One of the requests is an increase to Joshua’s purse to help cover the additional taxes he faces by boxing stateside.

Fury is clearly growing tired of the back-and-forth and recently declared that he doesn’t expect the bout to go ahead.

Regardless, ‘The Gypsy King’ touched down in Miami this week to begin his camp for a fight on the proposed November 20 date.

If it doesn’t turn out to be Joshua, then Fury’s brother Shane insists that the Mancunian has lined up a replacement opponent.

Speaking to Boxing King Media, he said: “The more I’m watching it, the less I’m thinking that this fight’s gonna happen.

“The fight’s on 20 November, time’s rolling on. It don’t affect us, because we’re fighting on that date anyway.

“Tyson’s over in America now, training as we speak.

“He’s got his nutritionist with him; he’s got his strength and conditioning [coach]; he’s got his trainer.

“He’s training, so if it’s not [Joshua], Tyson will be fighting on that day, so it really don’t [sic] affect us.

“It really makes no difference to us, because we will fight on that date either way.”

Who could Tyson Fury fight instead of Anthony Joshua?

Fury has previously declared that he would be open to facing WBC champion Agit Kabayel if the Joshua fight were to fall through.

The 38-year-old, who held the green and gold strap between 2020 and 2024, is currently the No.1-ranked contender by the major sanctioning body.

When quizzed on the possibility of Kabayel stepping in, Shane added: “Listen, it ain’t for me to talk about, but either way: we’re there, and it’s a big fight.

“A big, big, big fight. A big fight. How can I say anything, but it’s a big fight.

“There’ll be someone lined up for a big, big fight – either way, if it’s AJ or not, Tyson’s fighting…

“How long have we got left? 12, 13 weeks? Whether it’s AJ or not, Tyson will be fighting. We ain’t bothered. We’re gonna be fighting on that date, so I’m told.”
