Jalen Brunson pokes fun at Josh Hart’s missed Game 4 NBA Finals layup

The Knicks are officially the 2026 NBA champions, defeating the Spurs in five games. Now that the grind is over, they can have fun with the journey they just undertook. In a recent interview on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Jalen Brunson poked fun at Josh Hart’s missed layup in the final moments of Game 4. Had Hart made it after securing a steal, it would have put the Knicks up by one with 1:58 seconds remaining, but he ultimately missed the layup.

“A lot of great things happen there. You know, when you, when you, when we’re down one and you miss wide open layups,” Brunson quipped, to the delight of the crowd outside of Madison Square Garden.

Hart responded, “For me, you know, I wanted to, to set up an epic, you know, last possession. And we wouldn’t have had that OG tip in without that missed layup, so I was like, ‘You know what?’ I can’t…I sacrificed that layup so OG could get the tip in. So I was trying to be a good teammate.”

OG Anunoby did indeed have a pivotal moment in the closing seconds of the game. Jalen Brunson shot a 3-pointer with Victor Wembanyama guarding him. Anunoby ran uncontested to the rim and took the ball in to give the Knicks the lead with only a few seconds remaining. The play proved to be pivotal, as the Knicks went on to win the game and go up 3-1 and cap off a historic 29-point comeback, the largest in NBA history.
