NBA rumors: Why Rockets, Magic, Cavs are teams to watch for blow-up trades next season
While the talk around the Houston Rockets and star Kevin Durant has been jumbled regarding the future of the franchise, this NBA insider would ponder if they are a team that could look to tear it down soon. In a loaded Western Conference for the Rockets, the thought of blowing it up could be talked about, as is the case with the Orlando Magic and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
On Thursday’s edition of “Clutch Scoops” with insiders Brett Siegel and Tomer Azarly, the former would speak about the teams he’s heard that could look into resetting next season.
Starting with Houston, he would center the conversation on Durant, and with the drama and chemistry issues attached, and the veterans on the team not staying healthy like Fred VanVleet and Steven Adams, they could look in a new direction.
“If things don’t go their way, could they look to head in a new direction? Do they look to kind of retool and move Kevin Durant and some of those older guys? So again, Kevin Durant is going to be a name that comes up throughout the year until we know what his future looks like on a new contract.”

Aside from the Rockets, could the Magic and Cavs reset?
Then transitioning to the Magic, Siegel would mention how the team is top-heavy with a “major tax bill that they’re going to face moving forward” with players like Desmond Bane, Jalen Suggs, Paolo Banchero, and Franz Wagner on big contracts. With the Eastern Conference getting more competitive, Siegel ponders if they could look to tear it down.
While he’s been hearing about the Rockets and Magic, he throws in a speculative pick in the Cavs being a team that could think of blowing it up if they take another “step back.”
“What happens if they fall short of their goals once again and take a step back? Do they look to move either Jared Allen or Evan Mobley and completely tear things down around Donovan Mitchell?” Siegel asks.
It remains to be seen what happens to Houston, Orlando, and Cleveland next season.
