Timberwolves rumors: 2 under-the-radar targets to help fill void left by Julius Randle, Naz Reid

The Minnesota Timberwolves had a busy offseason, bringing in LaMelo Ball via trade and shipping out Naz Reid in the process, and then trading Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets in what essentially was a salary dump. The trades have left the Timberwolves’ roster without thin frontcourt depth, and with one spot left to fill potentially in free agency, there are two names they’re looking at, as per ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel.

During a recent episode of ‘ClutchScoops,’ Siegel noted that the Timberwolves have kicked the tires on forwards Trendon Watford and Jeremy Sochan via free agency as they look to fill their final roster spot in the offseason and add to their frontcourt depth.

Sochan is coming off an NBA championship having finished off this past season with the New York Knicks after signing with the team following a contract buyout from the San Antonio Spurs. Watford spent last season with the Philadelphia 76ers, and hit unrestricted free agency after the team declined his option for next season.

Sochan only played sparingly during the Knicks’ title run, appearing in only eight playoff games at a little over three minutes per game. He averaged 2.5 points while carrying shooting percentages of 77.8 percent from the field and 50 percent from the 3-point line.

Watford, on the other hand, played regularly during the season for the 76ers, before seeing his role decrease in the playoffs. He appeared in 53 regular season games, including seven starts, while averaging 6.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He shot 51.5 percent from the field and 77.9 percent from the free-throw line.
