Packers add to wide receiver room with former Bills draft pick

The Green Bay Packers were loaded with receiver depth last year. The team had Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, and Savion Williams all on the roster last year, on top of a solid tight end duo of Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft. Doubs led the team in receptions, something that Reed did the year prior. Furthermore, Watson has flashed stardom when not sidelined because of injuries, and Golden and Williams were high draft pick investments.

However, Jordan Love won’t have as many targets going forward. Doubs left the team for the New England Patriots in free agency, and Wicks was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. With training camp underway, the team tried to shore up the receiver position by signing Kaden Prather to a one-year contract.

Prather was drafted in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. However, the Maryland product was waived with an injury settlement before the season started, which resulted in him joining the Louisville Kings of the UFL. Prather won a championship with the Kings during his first and only season of professional football.

The 6-foot-3 pass catcher is considered a possession receiver who can win 50/50 balls. His 15.9 yards per catch average in college also signals that he could be a deep threat. It was a surprise that a Bills team that has long lacked a great receiving corps was so quick to move off of Prather, but he will now have a chance to make Green Bay’s 53-man roster.
