Miami football’s Darian Mensah hype train gains steam with Heisman Trophy pick from analyst

With the Miami football team preparing for the 2026 season, there is no doubt a lot of hype around the program with Duke transfer quarterback Darian Mensah leading the way. Concurrently, as Mensah looks to dominate for the Miami football team, this analyst believes that he will have such a successful season that he will win the Heisman Trophy.

Entering his junior year, he played his sophomore year with the Blue Devils, throwing for 3,973 yards (second in the county) to go along with 34 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Consequently, now entering a team that made it all the way to the national championship with Carson Beck, On3 Sports’ J.D. Pickett believes Mensah is bound to win the Heisman Trophy this upcoming season.

Subsequently, Pickett would speak on how Mensah will have his Heisman moment with the Hurricanes on Nov. 7 when they take on Notre Dame. He even went as far as to say that Mensah fits the “aesthetic” of being an exciting player to watch this year.

“Another reason why I think he ends up doing it, with it being people that vote on this thing, people, we like pretty things,” Mensah said. “We like things that look cool. It’s going to be a really aesthetic Heisman Trophy run from Darian Mensah with the receiving corps they have and the way they’re going to call that offense.”

“Cam Ward, that system they ran at Miami, they were top 15 in yards per pass that year,” Pickett continued. “That’s an exciting brand of football to watch. … Cam Ward was must-see TV. I think that Darian Mensah will be more in that vein. And I think that will have Miami winning the ACC, in the College Football Playoff, and that will be enough to stamp him as your Heisman Trophy winner in 2026.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen if Mensah will have the season Pickett is talking about as the Miami football team opens the year on Sept. 4 against Stanford.
