Warriors rumors: ClutchPoints insider takes hammer to Stephen Curry exit speculation

Despite recent speculation surrounding Stephen Curry’s future with the Golden State Warriors, ClutchPoints senior NBA insider Brett Siegel doesn’t believe the franchise icon is going anywhere. Speaking on the latest episode of Clutch Scoops, Siegel explained that the Warriors and Curry have mutual interest in working out a contract extension once he becomes eligible on Aug. 6, pushing back on rumors that the four-time NBA champion could eventually look to leave Golden State.

“Steph Curry wants to stay with the Warriors on a new deal… [The Warriors] are basically going to present him with a blank check and a blank contract… They’re gonna give him whatever he wants.”

“And I think that kind of segues us into this next segment because everything is gonna revolve around Stephen Curry for the Warriors where he is extension eligible starting August 6th,” Siegel said. “I believe it’s a two-year $136 million deal, maybe add a few hundred thousand dollars or so, something like that. No big deal, just pocket money for these franchises.”

Siegel then addressed the growing speculation about Curry’s long-term future.

“But anyways, so they’re gonna figure out Stephen Curry’s extension first and there is mutual interest to get a deal done there. We reported that two weeks ago here on ClutchPoints that Stephen Curry wants to stay with the Warriors on a new deal. They want him on a new deal and they’re basically gonna present him with a blank check and a blank contract and say, ‘What do you want?'”

According to Siegel, the Warriors are prepared to let Curry dictate the terms of his next contract.

“Do you want a one-year extension, a two-year deal? Do you want to take a discount? Do you not want to take a discount? They’re gonna give him whatever Steph Curry wants.”

The comments come after an offseason in which Golden State made few significant roster changes, leading some to wonder whether Curry could eventually seek another opportunity to compete for a championship. However, Curry’s history with the franchise suggests otherwise.

Since being selected by the Warriors in the 2009 NBA Draft, Curry has become the face of the organization, leading Golden State to four NBA championships, winning back-to-back NBA Most Valuable Player awards—including the league’s first unanimous MVP honor in 2016—and capturing the 2022 NBA Finals MVP award.
