This surprising Shohei Ohtani IL opinion will catch fans’ attention

The Los Angeles Dodgers keep delaying Shohei Ohtani’s return to pitching. Ohtani is still trying to recover from a knee ailment hindering him throughout July. Now this injury list opinion by a past MLB general manager will catch fans’ attention.

Former executive Jim Bowden dropped a stunning idea for manager Dave Roberts and the rest of the organization Thursday. Bowden believes Ohtani should be placed on the injured list and sit out for a lengthier period.

“That would put you in a better position for August, September, and October,” Bowden said on his podcast “GM Territory. “I think that would be a smart play right now for the Dodgers.”

Bowden believes the knee ailment is more bothersome than Ohtani’s other MLB Injury at the bicep.

“Ohtani even told media members that he might have to have something done in the offseason,” Bowden said regarding Ohtani’s knee.

Yet Bowden acknowledged a “hard part” about Ohtani.

“He’s really not hurt enough to not play,” Bowden said. “Shohei Ohtani wants to play. He wants to be out there. It’ll be hard for the Dodgers to put him on the injured list to be honest. But if I were in the Dodgers’ organization, I would bring him in and present that idea (going on IL) to him.”

Again, Bowden thinks more in terms of preventing LA from overworking Ohtani to get back in. Los Angeles still hasn’t missed a beat in his absence with owning the league’s best record.

But Ohtani’s injury sparked Tarik Skubal trade rumblings for the Dodgers. Teams have until Aug. 3 to make a deal.
