Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase sets sights on Randy Moss’ bonkers NFL record
Two years removed from making history, Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is looking to break another record. Chase and Cincinnati’s first priority is, of course, to win the Super Bowl. It’s a high that the team has been chasing since their failed 2021 run. In terms of individual goals, though, the star wide receiver has one record in mind: Randy Moss’ single-season touchdown record.
In a recent interview, the Bengals star said that he wants to try to break Moss’ single-season receiving touchdown record this year. Chase reiterated that it’s not his primary goal – their ultimate target is to win the Lombardi, after all – but that it’s a personal goal that he wants to challenge himself with.
“The only goal that I have for myself going forward now is just to get 22, 23 touchdowns,” Chase told NFL Network. “I want to break the record with that, but that’s not my full goal every day. You know what I’m saying? My goal is to be better than what I was the last day, try to get my team better than what they were the last day, and just trying to be better than what I was last year, man.”
Moss set the single-season touchdown record back in 2007, when he caught 23 touchdowns for the New England Patriots. He broke San Francisco 49ers legend Jerry Rice’s previous record of 22 touchdowns. Since then, no other receiver has reached over 20 receiving touchdowns. Chase is surprisingly close: the Bengals star is tied for fourth in the all-time list with 17 touchdowns during his Triple Crown year in 2024. However, to break that record, Chase would need to surpass his already lofty ceiling.
Despite losing Joe Burrow for three months, Chase still performed at an elite level last season. The Bengals star caught 125 passes for 1,412 yards and eight touchdowns in 2025. It will take an astronomical turn of events for Chase to have a chance of breaking the record. If there’s any receiver capable of breaking that record, though, it’s him.
