Wild’s Matt Boldy gets brutally honest on 3-1 series deficit vs. Avalanche
The Minnesota Wild dropped a critical game Monday in their Stanley Cup Playoffs series with the Colorado Avalanche. Colorado won 5-2, to take a 3-1 series lead. The Wild are now on the brink of elimination.
Minnesota winger Matt Boldy is getting honest about the situation. His team had won Game 3, but wasn’t able to post back-to-back victories.
“I don’t think we played fully to our identity, and I think everyone in this room knows that. So, yeah, it’s about going there and winning a game. That’s all it is,” Boldy said, per NHL.com. “Can’t change this one. Yeah, we would have loved to have it, but can’t change it. You’ve got to go take care of business there, and, you know, take it one game at a time.”
Boldy has 11 points in this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs. His Minnesota team was able to keep pace with Colorado for a good portion of Monday’s game. At one point the two teams were deadlocked at 2 goals apiece.
It soon fell apart as the Avalanche were able to pull away behind two empty-net goals. Colorado’s head coach Jared Bednar says his team’s mindset changed from Game 3 to Game 4.
“For me, the biggest change from last game (a 5-1 loss in Game 3 on Saturday) to this game is we were a more determined group,” Bednar said. “To a man, just more determined and committed to playing the right way.
“I didn’t hate our details last game, but I thought that we got outcompeted in that game a little bit. And tonight, we kind of swung it back in our favor and guys went to work. Relentless all over the rink. We just looked quicker.”
The Wild must now win three games in a row to survive in this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs. Minnesota and Colorado play Game 5 on Wednesday.
