Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi placed on IL with elbow injury

The Texas Rangers are sitting just a half-game back in the AL West. They did not do a ton at the MLB Trade Deadline, with the Rangers adding Logan O’Hoppe, Chase Silseth, and Adam Macko, while keeping their core.

One of the pieces of the core was pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, but he will not be pitching for the Rangers any time soon, per Talkin’ Baseball.

“The Rangers lose Nathan Eovaldi to the injured list due to right posterior elbow inflammation,” Talkin’ Baseball posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Eovaldi last pitched against the Baltimore Orioles on August 7. He went 5.1 innings in the game, giving up four hits and just one run in the game. The Rangers pitcher is 10-9 on the year with a 4.21 ER and a 1.21 WHIP. He is also 20th in the majors with 137 strikeouts this year. Still, he struggled in July. Eovaldi was 202 with a 5.67 ERA and gave up seven home runs.

The 36-year-old pitcher was sidelined last year for a few weeks with the same injury.

Ben Peoples will be recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in the corresponding move. Peoples has pitched in 12 games so far this year at the MLB level, all of them in relief. He has a 2.19 ERA in his 12.1 innings of work.

Eovaldi was scheduled to pitch on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels. Still, they have MacKenzie Gore, Cody Bradford, Jacob deGrom, Kumar Rocker, and Cal Quatrill available for the rotation.

The Rangers are 59-59 on the year, placing them in second in the AL West. They also control the last wild card spot in the American League. They start a series with the Angels on Monday night.
