Dodgers call up ex-Rockies reliever before Royals clash

The Los Angeles Dodgers need a spark right now as the club is 2-8 in its last 10 games. The team may be seeking that spark in the bullpen, after reports indicate that L.A. is calling up a former Colorado Rockies reliever from the minor leagues.

It’s said that Seth Halvorsen, who was traded from Colorado to Los Angeles before the deadline, was officially called up to the Dodgers on Monday, hours before the contest against the Kansas City Royals, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. The 26-year-old right-hander will be available in the bullpen on Monday, as he could make his debut with L.A. against Kansas City.

“Dodgers are calling up reliever Seth Halvorsen, sources told The Athletic,” Ardaya reported. “The hard-thrower was acquired in a trade with the Colorado Rockies last month.”

Halvorsen is in the middle of his third year in MLB. After flashing major potential as a potential closer in his 2024 debut season, the next two campaigns have been frustrating for the former Tennessee Volunteer, to say the least. He finished his rookie season with a 1.46 ERA, only to follow that up with a 4.99 ERA in 2025 and a 4.74 ERA so far this year.

While things look bleak for Halvorsen’s career, the one glimmer of hope is that the Dodgers are a much more competitive team than the Rockies. With Edwin Diaz ice cold on the mound this year, and nobody else in the bullpen really challenging him for the closer role, Halvorsen may have an opportunity to work as the relief pitcher L.A. needs to step up in crucial moments.
