White Sox’s Tristan Peters drops the mic on playoff hopes with 32 games left

With the Chicago White Sox walking off the New York Mets on Friday to start the series, thanks to catcher Jake Rogers, the team has done it once again on Sunday. After the White Sox walked off the Mets again in Sunday’s 2-1 win, this time with Tristan Peters responsible, he spoke about the team’s playoff hopes with 32 games left in the season.

On a 3-1 pitch by New York pitcher Kodai Senga in the bottom of the ninth inning, Peters would connect on a home run to send the game home with a win, leading the team to an 11th walk-off victory. Peters would be asked about the chances of Chicago making the playoffs with little time remaining, as the 26-year-old didn’t hesitate in his answer.

“Oh, absolutely. We’re really a good team. It’s just such an impressive young team. I think no doubt we can be in the playoffs,” Peters said, according to Scott Merkin of MLB.com.

As mentioned, it is the White Sox’s 11th walk-off win, which has been done by eight different players, though Peters had done it twice before Sunday’s exciting conclusion.

Looking at the playoff hopes, the team is now at a 68-62 record, which puts them first in the AL Central, as the best way for the team to make the postseason is to hold on to the division.

But if Chicago were to go on a slump, they would have to likely obtain the final wild-card spot, since their current record is worse than the top two wild-card teams in the AL, the New York Yankees (74-56) and the Boston Red Sox (71-59). At any rate, the White Sox’s next take on the Texas Rangers, the series starts on Monday.
