Travis Kelce can shake up NFL and join needy Eagles to win Super Bowl without Patrick Mahomes

It is time for the Kansas City Chiefs to call Travis Kelce’s bluff.

If Kelce is really bluffing as the bonanza of NFL free agency begins.

It could be Chiefs or bust for future Hall of Famer

Kelce, more than Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, has been defined by being a Chief.

The future Hall of Fame tight end was drafted by Kansas City as the No. 63 overall pick (third round) in 2013 and is on the verge of deciding to play his 14th NFL season.

The brother of Jason, and son of Ed and Donna, has played 192 regular-season games and 25 postseason contests in the pros for only one team – the Chiefs.

So is Kelce really going to leave his entire KC career behind at age 36, and make the life-changing move at the same time that Mahomes is recovering from a major knee injury?

It’s hard to believe.

Even harder to believe is the rumor that the super-competitive and fiercely proud Kelce would give up his 13-year Chiefs loyalty to play one more NFL season … with the Cleveland Browns.

If this is a negotiating ploy by Kelce’s agents, then KC general manager Brett Veach, Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt and Big Red should see straight through the transparent trick.

Sure, Kelce ranked fourth among all tight ends in receiving yards (851) last year.

But the Chiefs finished 6-11, Kansas City failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2014, and Kelce’s 50.1 receiving yards per game was the lowest mark of his career.

Part of the reason that he reached 851 yards was because he was targeted a team-high 108 times, which was 30 more than second-place Rashee Rice.

A season later, Kelce will again be slower and more injury prone, and closer toward retirement than a 1,000-yard season — which he hasn’t produced since 2022.

Kelce wants to win seven games with Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson and Todd Monken next year, and go out as a Browns loser during his final season in the NFL?

Please.

Leaping to Philly and joining his brother Jason’s old team makes more sense – if the younger Kelce bro is really willing to move on from Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs faithful, Mahomes and Reid.

Eagles much better than Browns for Kelce

Philadelphia will be the NFC East favorite again in 2026 and a Super Bowl contender.

Kelce would also be an upgrade over 31-year-old tight end Dallas Goedert, who can leave the Eagles via free agency.

Tight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?

The Chiefs should make it simple for one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history

If Kelce wants to leave, that’s on him.

He has a place in Kansas City’s offense and locker room again in 2026 – on a team-friendly contract that recognizes his value but also acknowledges the fact that he’ll turn 37 in October and he’s in athletic decline.

Finding a No. 1 receiver, improving an inconsistent running game and fixing a leaky offensive line are far more important to the Chiefs right now than overpaying Kelce.

A tight end entering his 14th season can always be replaced in the NFL.

Mahomes needs better support, and the Chiefs must spend their money wisely during the NFL’s financial silly season.
