The road on which the incident occurred is just a 10-minute drive from England‘s team training base for the tournament, Swope Soccer Village, and 20 minutes from their hotel, the Inn at Meadowbrook in Prairie Village.

Shots were heard in the early hours of the morning and police were dispatched to the 7900 block of Troost Avenue, arriving when crowds were dispersing from the area.

Three adult females were taken to hospital after suffering injuries, with the total number of people impacted confirmed to be nine.

There are no suspects in custody.

The FA have declined to comment on the matter, but it is thought that the squad and hotel will already be heavily protected.

England’s base camp in Kansas City is being shielded by three rings of security, becoming a ‘virtual fortress’, according to The Sun.

A cordon of concrete barriers is in place, with screens blocking the line of sight for potential threats, while a no-fly zone is being enforced to protect against drones.

Armed police and private security guards will reportedly be on the Three Lions’ complex too.

Comments from locals

A local who lives next to Troost Avenue in Kansas City was woken up by a bullet hole through the front window of their house.

Kate Fowler told The Kansas City Star: “Honestly, I’m glad I slept through it, because I probably would have freaked out.

“We’ve lived here for two years, we’ve been wanting to move pretty much since we got the place — not because of the neighbours or the community or anything like that — just the fact that we live right on 75th Street [off of Troost Avenue], and it is so unpredictable.

“This has further solidified that for us, which is unfortunate, because I think this neighbourhood could be something great.”

When do England travel to Kansas City?

England’s staff and players are currently in Florida, having just played New Zealand in a friendly.

The Three Lions won 1-0 thanks to a Harry Kane header on the cusp of half time.

Thomas Tuchel‘s side are due to fly to Kansas City on Saturday, June 13.

They will then be based there for the remainder of the tournament.

Argentina and the Netherlands are also based in Kansas City.

The World Cup holders will use Sporting KC’s main training facility, while the Dutch will train at the base of NWSL side Kansas City Current.
