Rangers told to sack Danny Rohl and instantly hire talkSPORT host

Danny Rohl does not have the ‘passion’ to be Rangers manager, according to one fan of the Scottish giants.

Instead, the supporter has called for a former Premier League boss to be placed in the Ibrox dugout.

Rohl has come under fire from fans after Sunday’s Old Firm defeat in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.

Rangers were beaten 4-2 on penalties by Celtic following a goalless draw in Glasgow.

The match was followed by unsavoury scenes inside the stadium after fans from both sides entered the pitch.

Meanwhile, questions have been asked of Rohl’s tactics after his side failed to beat their bitter rivals for the second weekend in a row.

The defeat also leaves Rangers at serious risk of ending the season without a trophy.

As a result, Gers fan Craig told talkSPORT on Sunday evening that he would take Alan Pardew as Rohl’s replacement.

Man for the job

The former Newcastle United manager was joined by Majestic on The Final Word as they took calls from Rangers supporters.

When asked if questions need to be asked of Rohl, Craig explained: “Yes, definitely. I wouldn’t mind seeing Pards coming out of retirement and taking that role to be honest.

“I think he would do a good job. He’s also got that passion about him as well that I think if you’re an Old Firm manager, you need that.”

Pardew has been away from the dugout since leaving Greek side Aris Thessaloniki in February 2023.

The 64-year-old has previously taken charge of 318 Premier League matches across spells with West Ham, Charlton, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and West Brom.

He has also managed in the Netherlands and Bulgaria alongside his time in charge of Reading and Southampton in the Football League.

Rohl’s ‘decision-making’ to blame

As for Rohl, Craig continued: “Danny Rohl for me doesn’t look as if (he’s got the passion).

“I know he’s young in the game and he’s trying to find his way but his decision-making and substitutions were absolutely terrible in the past two Old Firm games.

“I was there today and I was there last week and Mikey Moore ran the show last week for the first 75, 80 minutes and he ran the show today for the first 75 minutes and we took him off.

“Every Rangers fan was like ‘what is he doing here?’ He had that boy on toast and the boy was booked, (Liam) Scales was booked.

“So you need your players coming on, the ones who’ve got to go and take people on.

“We’ve got a left-back and a right-back that’s been yellow carded and you’ve got a player like Mikey Moore that can turn on a sixpence and cause problems for them, but nobody could understand why he’s done it.

“His substitutions are not just the two Old Firm games. I would say the past five or six games Rangers have played at Motherwell, Hibs and all that, it’s very defensive and it’s not going for the kill, if you know what I mean, when you need that killer goal.”

Responding to questions of Rohl’s decision-making, Pardew said: “I always think the top managers, you really earn your corn on matchday. You can put the tactical decision-making process in place and the team know exactly what’s required of them.

“But those changes to game patterns and what the opposition have changed to are so important. They win and lose your games.”

Rohl succeeded Russell Martin as Rangers manager in October on a deal until the summer of 2028.

The role represents his second senior managerial position after two years in charge of Sheffield Wednesday.

He has since won 17 of his 31 matches across all competitions, but just one of those victories has been against Celtic.

Meanwhile, Rangers surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 against their bitter rivals at Ibrox last weekend.

Celtic also knocked Rohl’s side out of the Scottish League Cup at the semi-final stage in November.

Following their Scottish Cup defeat on Sunday, the league is now the only trophy Rangers can win this season.

However, they currently sit six points adrift of leaders Hearts in third place with nine matches remaining.
