The New York Knicks are savoring their first NBA title since 1973. There were many highlights from the epic five-game series against the San Antonio Spurs. But undoubtedly, it will be OG Anunoby’s game-winning tip-in in Game 4 that will be top of mind.

The Monday after the Knicks defeated the Spurs in five games, Anunoby and his teammates appeared on Good Morning America. When asked about the tip-in, Anunoby was going for the slam, per Good Morning America.

“I mean, I was trying to dunk it” he said.

It was the perfect way to cap off what was a historic 29-point comeback by the Knicks. After losing Game 3, the Spurs seemed to regain the momentum. They were surging ahead going into the fourth quarter, when the Knicks started to claw their way back.

With the Knicks trailing 106-105, Jalen Brunson threw up a 3-point shot. It went off the back of the rim, just when Anunoby came swooping in for the tip with 1.2 seconds left. Anunoby finished the game with 33 points, shot 10-for-15 from the field, and grabbed four rebounds.

It was a moment that led legends of the game, like Magic Johnson, to declare it one of the greatest in sports history.

Going into Game 5, Anunoby was laser-focused on the task at hand. He played 33 minutes and scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and had three steals in the 94-90 championship victory.

There were plenty of heroes who led New York to the promised land after decades of coming up short. But Anunoby was the hero of all heroes.
