NFL rumors: Jaguars insider takes hammer to sudden A.J. Brown trade buzz

All eyes have been on A.J. Brown and whether the Philadelphia Eagles are planning to trade him after June 1. That’s been the expectation since then, and the New England Patriots seem to be the one team that continues to get mentioned. It looks like another team may have entered the group chat, and an NFL executive believes the Jacksonville Jaguars could get into the sweepstakes, according to insider J.L. Canfora.

“Jags receiver Brian Thomas, Jr. has regressed and been subject of trade rumors and 2025 top pick Travis Hunter is going to be playing way more cornerback than receiver moving forward and a vet like Brown could help fill a void there,” Canfora wrote.

That has led to many others thinking about that possibility, and Kay Adams and James Palmer were the latest to discuss the idea.

“Is Brian Thomas Jr. available? Is he not available? I’ve heard both behind closed doors and out in the open,” Palmer said on the Up and Adams show. “Are they going to make some moves in terms of how that wide receiver room is built, if Travis Hunter is going to be playing receiver as much. Do you want to go make a big splash?”

On the other hand, some think it doesn’t make sense for the Jaguars to trade for Brown when looking at how their offense is run.

“Why would the Jags trade for a player who wants to always be targeted when their offense does not have a No. 1 WR by design? And they’re loading up to deploy more TEs and Washington is set for an extension and they just gave Meyers one and they aren’t trading BTJ,” Demetrius Harvey of the Florida Times-Union wrote on X.

In the end, it seems like Howie Roseman is going to go with the best deal, and if the Jaguars have it, they’ll get something done.
