Packers’ Matthew Golden Year 2 breakout teased by Jordan Love endorsement
Matthew Golden appears ready to take a major step forward in his second NFL season.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love praised the young receiver after the two connected repeatedly during practice. Love highlighted Golden’s ability to get open and create separation, explaining that those traits make his job easier.

“We had a connection going today. Made a lot of plays,” Love said. “I think for him, he’s finding ways to get open, which as a quarterback, it makes life easy. Getting open, creating separation, I know where to put it now. He’s doing a great job. I think for him, it’s just to continue to build.”
That endorsement should excite Packers fans. Golden enters Year 2 with an opportunity to establish himself as Green Bay’s No. 1 receiver. The Packers have not had a clear top option at the position since Davante Adams left, instead relying on a deep group of pass-catchers to share the workload.
Golden could finally change that. His growing connection with Love is especially encouraging. Talent alone will not make Golden the offense’s primary receiver, but consistently getting open and earning his quarterback’s trust could quickly elevate him into that role.
Green Bay already has a strong supporting cast. Christian Watson and Jayden Reed give Love two proven weapons alongside Golden, while Savion Williams and Bo Melton are expected to contribute. A healthy Tucker Kraft would also provide the offense with another dangerous option at tight end.
That depth means Golden can create favorable matchups, as defenses cannot focus all their attention on one receiver.
Love made it clear that their connection remains a work in progress, but the early returns are promising. If Golden continues creating separation and making plays, he could emerge as the receiver Green Bay has been searching for.
The Packers already knew Golden possessed considerable potential. Love’s endorsement suggests his breakout may be arriving sooner than expected.
