Guardians get 2 injury updates as team attempts to salvage season
With the Cleveland Guardians still holding out hope in their chances at the AL Central, the team is going to need all the help they can get as key injury updates have been revealed. While the Guardians are going through a collapse, as the team is 9-19 since the All-Star break, the team does get two updates regarding the club’s pitching.
Starting with starting pitcher Salde Cecconi, who hasn’t made a start since his Aug. 6 game against the New York Mets, he was placed on the injured list due to right arm fatigue on Aug. 7.
While there is no structural damage, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reported that Cecconi conducted a bullpen session and, after throwing another one in the near future, the expectation is that he goes on a rehab assignment.
“Cecconi threw a bullpen over past few days. Set to throw another and then expected to go on a rehab assignment,” Stebbins wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
So far this season, Cecconi has recorded a 5.07 ERA to go along with 88 strikeouts and a 4-7 record in 23 starts.
Another pitcher who has been dealing with an injury is relief pitcher Colin Holderman, as he sustained right wrist inflammation and exited Cleveland’s 6-1 win against the San Diego Padres on Saturday. Stebbins reports that Holderman played catch on Monday and is “feeling better,” though he is “feeling better.”
“Holderman played catch on Monday and was set to get off a mound today. Remains day-to-day, feeling better,” Stebbins continued.
At any rate, it remains to be seen when Cecconi or Holderman come back to the Guardians as the team is 60-65, putting them fourth in the AL Central, which is five-and-a-half games back of first place ahead of Tuesday’s game against the San Francisco Giants.
