Mets’ Luis Robert Jr. opens up about return to Chicago before White Sox clash
Luis Robert Jr. is making his return to Chicago on Friday as the Mets prepare to play the Chicago White Sox on the road. Robert was traded from the White Sox to the Mets this past offseason. While Robert had ups and downs with the White Sox, he did have a memorable 2023 campaign that saw him hit 38 home runs while recording an .857 OPS. Robert opened up on returning to Chicago before Friday night’s game, via SNY Mets.
“It feels great to return, but at the same time, it feels a little weird coming through the way of the visitors,” Robert said via interpreter. “So it feels a little strange, feels a little foreign. But I’m very excited to be back.”
Robert has been limited to 49 games played this season due to injury. He is hitting just .215 to go along with a .652 OPS. Nevertheless, Robert displayed a high ceiling at times with the White Sox as mentioned.
Robert was mentioned as a trade candidate before the 2026 deadline, but he ultimately was not moved. Now he is trying to finish the ’26 campaign strong with New York.
Mets interim manager Andy Green also commented on Robert’s return to Chicago, via SNY Mets as well.
“I think almost every player, when they come back to the place that signed them and developed them and let them play in the big leagues for the first time, they want to show out,” Green said. “I’d love to see him do that.”
Luis Robert Jr. will attempt to lead the Mets to a win over the White Sox on Friday night in Chicago.
