Eagles waive promising WR with injury designation

The Philadelphia Eagles have had some makeover in their wide receiver room this offseason, and they’ll be looking to make an impact when the season begins. Unfortunately, Johnny Wilson will not be a part of that group, as he was recently waived with an injury designation.

“We signed C Zeke Correll and WR Brandon Hayes. We also placed Tariq Castro-Fields on the Injured Reserve List and waived/injured WR Johnny Wilson,” the team wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The Eagles selected Wilson in the sixth round of the 2024 draft out of Florida State. He appeared in 16 games in his rookie season, and he finished with five catches, 38 yards and one touchdown. Where Wilson was able to make an impact on the field was in his blocking, which helped in the running game.

He was then injured last season in training camp and had to undergo surgery, which held him back from competing. It was going to be hard for him to get playing time coming back this season, as they added receivers such as Hollywood Brown in free agency and drafted Makai Lemon in the first round.

In a corresponding move, it looks like the Eagles were able to sign Brandon Hayes, and it’ll be interesting to see what his role looks like on the team.

As for Wilson, he’ll be going through waivers, and there’s a chance that a team claims him.

The Eagles recently took part in joint practice with the New England Patriots over the past few days, and the offense had some highs and lows. Jalen Hurts threw several picks over the two days, and it looks like he’s still getting acclimated to the offensive system that Sean Mannion has put in place.

This is the time for the Eagles to work out the bad plays, and things should be better when the season begins.
