Phil Handy reunites with LeBron James, Nick Nurse in Philadelphia
The Philadelphia 76ers have had one of the biggest NBA offseasons in some time, and it doesn’t look like they’re done. Head coach Nick Nurse will be getting some help from a familiar friend on the bench, as Phil Handy is signing with the team as an assistant, according to Andscape’s Marc J. Spears.
He’ll also be rejoining LeBron James, as he was an assistant for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers.
“Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Phil Handy is finalizing a deal to become an assistant coach with Philadelphia Sixers head coach Nick Nurse, a source said. Handy previously worked with Nurse in Toronto and with LeBron James with the Cavs and Lakers. Great addition for Nurse,” Spears wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Handy is one of the more well-known assistants in the league, as he’s helped several players develop their skills. He’s well known for working out with Kyrie Irving and sharpening his already shifty handles. There’s no doubt that he’ll be a help to a guard like Tyrese Maxey.
Everyone is seeing what the 76ers have been able to build over the past few months, and now they’re just waiting to find out how it all meshes on the court. Maxey, James, and Brown were recently working out together, and that gave people a glimpse of what could be yet to come when the season begins.
The 76ers will be considered one of the best teams in the league this season, but it won’t be an easy road for them when looking at the rest of the Eastern Conference. There will be no nights off, and the 76ers have to know that teams will be giving them their best at all times.
