49ers’ Brock Purdy further explains desire to run more this season

The San Francisco 49ers will be leaning on Brock Purdy to elevate their offense this season, and he’s shown that he can do so. This season, he plans on taking things a bit further, as he wants to use his legs more to maximize the offense. Purdy was recently on the Pat McAfee Show and shared his desire for wanting to create opportunities with his legs more.

“I don’t know if I’ll be a Lamar Jackson out there by any means, but there’s always times on film where it’s like, I probably could use my feet there to pick up that 1st down and whatnot. But I think that’s always within my training to make sure that I’m in shape and
I am athletic enough to get out of the pocket, make plays off the scramble and whatnot,” Purdy said.

The 49ers’ quarterback had mentioned wanting to use his legs more the day before in an interview with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“I’m never going to be a 4.4 guy, 4.5 guy,” Purdy said. “The thing I pride myself on is moving quickly, moving the chains when I need 10, 12 yards. I think I can add that for our offense, for sure. Not looking for that kind of stuff, but being able to fall back when those moments happen, like, ‘alright dude, I have the legs to do this, the mobility to do this, the athleticism.’…As I get older, I want to maintain that.”

Even if he doesn’t have the speed like most mobile quarterbacks in the league, it could still be a huge opportunity for him to create plays for the offense when they’re on the field. His legs could be the difference between the team picking up a 3rd-and-short or running it in at the goal line for a touchdown.
