Long-time Bucks assistant joins Erik Spoelstra’s staff, Giannis with Heat

With the Miami Heat expected to sign star Klay Thompson, it is one of the many moves made this offseason that has shifted the direction of the team, including the blockbuster trade for superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. As the Heat are led by Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, the team has now made a move when it comes to the coaching staff, as it’ll be one that the former Milwaukee Bucks big man will love.

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, assistant coach Vin Baker will be on Erik Spoelstra’s coaching staff after being with Milwaukee for the last eight seasons.

Haynes would note that Antetokounmpo and Baker have a “close bond,” as it is a move that could help the star with the transition after being with the Bucks for 13 seasons and the only familiar face being Bobby Portis Jr., who was in the aforementioned trade.

“After spending eight seasons with [the] Milwaukee Bucks as an assistant, Vin Baker is joining Erik Spoelstra’s coaching staff with [the] Miami Heat to reunite with Giannis Antetokounmpo to whom he has a close bond with, sources tell me,” Haynes wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Before being an assistant coach in the NBA, Baker was a former player in the league, starting his career with Milwaukee after he was selected with the eighth overall pick in the 1993 NBA Draft. Playing with other teams such as the Seattle SuperSonics, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and others, Baker was a four-time All-Star and had a productive NBA career.

At any rate, Baker now takes his coaching duties to Miami, as the team looks to usher in a new era with Antetokounmpo at the forefront.
